2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages in order to raise global attention on the critical risks confronting indigenous languages and its significance for sustainable development, reconciliation, good governance, and peace building.
Languages is very important to us because it plays a crucial role in our daily lives. Languages is not only a tool for communication, but also self-expression, cultural history, tradition, and memory. But unfortunately, languages all over the world continue to disappear at an alarming rate. That is why the United Nation declared 2019 the International Year of Indigenous Languages in order to raise awareness to all the people that we should appreciate the important contribution of our languages to our world's rich cultural diversity.
Cesar Chavez once said "Our language is the reflection of ourselves. A language is an exact reflection of the character and growth of its speakers."
