KANNAWIDAN YLOCOS FESTIVAL!
The old and the new in
Ilocano culture are both featured in this year’s Kannawidan Ylocos Festival
- the festival of Ilocos Sur that
celebrates its being a separate province and its being a treasure chest of
traditions and culture. They call it the
KANNAWIDAN Ylocos Festival, it is also a time to commemorate the anniversary of
Ilocos Sur as a province since it was separated on February 3, 1818. Kannawidan
is a variant of the Ilocano word "tawid" meaning heritage or
inheritance. It is also a celebration that lasts from the last week of January
up to the first week of February. Included in the course of events is the
commemoration of the foundation day of the province.
The Kannawidan Festival
celebrates its opening on January 29, 2020 and all schools have no classes. On
January 29 in the morning, there are choir contest and a lot of schools in the
province of Ilocos Sur participated. On February 1, there are street dancing
and it shows the culture and traditions of Ilocanos. In the night, a lot of
bands and artists are coming to perform like december avenue, you belong to the
zoo and a lot more. And also last year, the kpop band momoland also perform in
the Kannawidan. There are also a lot of rides like vikings, ferris wheel and
more.
